Another Version: Techno, Sci-Fi & Stencil Sport in One Font

I had just opened a blank brand board for a new client—a premium coworking space with a focus on tech innovation and industrial design. The visual identity needed to feel simultaneously futuristic, structured, and approachable. I scrolled through my library of premium fonts, and when I landed on Another Version, I knew I had found the core of the project. This isn’t just another decorative typeface; it’s a precise instrument for building a bold brand character.

Another Version is a Display typeface that masterfully bridges the gap between cold, calculated geometry and expressive, high-impact energy. It takes the sharp, clean lines of techno and sci-fi typography and infuses them with the structured, aerodynamic sophistication of stencil sport design. The result is a font that feels both instantly recognizable and refreshingly original.

Testing Another Version for a Modern Brand Identity Project

Right away, I noticed the tension between precision and movement. The letterforms are unapologetically geometric—think circular arcs meeting straight, angled stems—which immediately grounds the font in a modern, almost architectural reality. Yet, the stencil-inspired breaks add a layer of urban grit and speed. It’s a Display typeface that doesn’t whisper; it announces itself with a clear, confident voice. For my coworking brand, it perfectly captured the intersection of code, concrete, and community.

I dropped the brand name into the primary lockup. The logo immediately looked like it belonged on a building facade, a website hero, or a startup pitch deck. It had that rare quality of feeling both premium and accessible—a difficult balance for any modern brand identity. The design achieves what the foundry’s description calls "the quintessence of modernity and style" by balancing its contradictory influences. The uppercase characters feel powerful and authoritative, ideal for a primary logo, while the lowercase introduces a slightly more approachable, human rhythm for headlines and accent text. It’s a versatile workhorse disguised as a specialist.

When I applied Another Version to the brand board, it immediately dictated the entire visual language. The font became the anchor for the mood. I paired it with a muted color palette of graphite, neon cyan, and matte white, and the combination felt cohesive and intentional. This is the mark of a well-crafted typeface—it doesn’t just fit the project; it helps define it.

How Another Version Captures Techno and Sci-Fi Sophistication in Display Fonts

Beyond the logo, I applied Another Version to a set of social media templates. On Instagram and LinkedIn, the font retained its clarity and impact, even when scaled down for mobile screens. This is a critical test for any Display typeface aspiring to be a brand’s lead voice. I particularly liked how it performed in all-caps for punchy value propositions—the "sci-fi" sophistication becomes a subtle visual cue for innovation and forward momentum.

In the brand’s visual hierarchy, Another Version naturally took the top spot. It became the hero for main headings, event titles, and key messaging. Its strong, upright stance and condensed spacing mean you can fit a surprising amount of impact into a small space. For a business card, it turned a simple name and title into a statement of futurism and precision. I also tested it on a website homepage hero section, and the font created an immediate sense of authority and innovation. It communicates that the business operates at the edge of what’s possible, which is exactly the message my client needed to send to their target audience of startup founders and creative freelancers.

This is a font specifically for projects that need to communicate forward-thinking design. It would excel in the visual identity of a gaming studio, a cybersecurity firm, an automotive tech company, or a cutting-edge fashion label. It brings a level of polish that elevates any brand identity project from standard to standout.

Using Another Version as a Stencil Sport Display Font for Headlines and Logos

The "stencil sport" influence truly shines in packaging and print. I mocked it up on a premium box design for a hypothetical energy supplement and was genuinely impressed. The font captures the energy of athlete branding but filters it through a high-design lens. It avoids the overly aggressive or niche look of pure stencil fonts, instead offering a refined "sophistication" that could easily sit next to a minimal serif or a clean sans serif. The stencil aesthetic in typography often evokes military or industrial themes, but Another Version refines it into something more versatile. It feels less like a warning sign and more like a starting grid at a futuristic Grand Prix.

That said, let’s be realistic. Another Version is a Display typeface at heart. Pushing it into small body text sizes, especially at light weights, will compromise its readability. The very features that give it character—the stencil cuts and geometric precision—can become visual noise below a certain size. If you squish it into a dense paragraph, you lose the distinct shapes and confident rhythm that make it special. I recommend keeping it for headlines, logos, short phrases, and accent text above 18-24pt for print and 24-36px for web. Do not use it for paragraphs or long-form editorial body copy. It demands space to breathe and an audience ready to appreciate its details.

Font Pairing and Licensing Considerations for Another Version

In my testing, Another Version paired exceptionally well with clean, neutral sans serifs like Inter or Montserrat for web copy, and with minimalist serifs like Playfair Display or EB Garamond for a high-contrast editorial feel. The pairing allows the strong personality of Another Version to shine while the supporting text remains legible and grounded. It creates a modern typography system that feels curated and intentional across all assets—from a website header to a product label. If you are building a visual identity for a tech-forward brand, an athletic startup, or any project that requires a shot of modern confidence, Another Version deserves a place in your type library. It’s a Display typeface with a distinct point of view, and it delivers genuine value when applied thoughtfully.

Before you download and start a final project, remember to check the commercial licensing. Using Another Version in client work, brand identities, packaging design, websites, or even merchandise usually requires a specific desktop or web license. Don’t skip this step. It ensures your work remains professional and legally sound. I always test a new font thoroughly in my design software before committing to a license for a client project. When you do take the leap, make sure you review any included styles, alternates, ligatures, or multilingual support, as these extras can dramatically expand the creative range of your design assets. For the coworking identity, having access to multiple weights and stylistic alternates would have given me even more freedom to fine-tune the brand voice.
